Achilles Inflatable Boats
Achilles Inflatable Boats hold a special place in the Achilles story. They are the only finished product sold under the Achilles brand in North America, and they're a real source of pride for our parent company, Achilles Corporation, in Japan. We manufacture our boats in Japan and, more recently and to a lesser degree, in China.
Built with CSM Fabric
Every Achilles boat is made with chlorosulphonated polyethylene (CSM) fabric produced by Achilles Corporation in Japan. The fabric is made through a calendering process and has four layers:
- Two inner layers of chloroprene for air retention
- A nylon or polyester core for strength and support
- An outer CSM coating for protection against the marine environment
CSM stands up to UV exposure, abrasion, oil, and gas, which are the things boats deal with every day on the water. Because CSM can't be heat welded, every boat is glued by hand.
Why CSM over PVC
Many competitors use PVC fabric to cut material and labor costs, so you'll see boats that look like ours at half the price. Achilles is a world leader in PVC manufacturing, and we still choose CSM for our boats because we believe it's the better fabric for the job.
